Handheld or stationary console?

*Not taking the pc into account here, consoles vs pc is a whole different subject *

I am wondering how you guys feel about this.

When the first gaming systems started coming out, there really wasn't much choice. Get one of two or three consoles currently on the market, plug it into your tv, grab the controller and play, a bit later portables started seeing the daylight but were often considered no match against stationaries. Nowadays we have a wide variety of gaming systems, expensive, cheap, "hardcore gamer" systems, casual "family-friendly" systems, handheld, stationary, complete entertainment systems, interactive systems, newer models, older models, etc etc.
Along with improvements the line between portables and stationaries have started fading. While originally there was a huge difference (when the original gameboy was giving us 160×144 pixels in black and white to play the first pokémon games, the ps1 and nintendo64 were treating us with full color 3D games such as FFVII), today we see more and more games being directly ported to handheld systems mainting much of the quality and gameplay(!) of the original game. Portables have decent music now, graphics are not as good as the mothersystem's but because handhelds have small screens, it still looks pretty good. Many of the drawbacks of handhelds have been erased, namely poor graphics, the low amount of buttons, not suitable for fast pace games, terrible sound quality etc. It seems most games playable on a stationary game are now also perfectly playable on a handheld.

But just because handhelds have started catching up on the stationary systems, does that mean you don't still prefer a good ol' heavy unit under your tv instead of that thing you always bring on holiday? That's up to you to decide.

Below is a little story about myself and gaming systems.
When I was younger I used to consider myself as a gamer (not hardcore, but a gamer) and prefered a stationary game console. Graphics were better, you'd have a big screen to look at and games were generally better on a stationary platform than a handheld. The only time I used handhelds was when I went on holiday.
However now I'm a bit older I don't really consider myself much of a gamer anymore, maybe a casual gamer. When I play games I like to sit comfortably and have a good time instead of griding, grinding and grinding with a laptop next to me to look up guides for max hp/hr or fast throphy techniques (still not putting the game away before I absolutely 100% it, but there's no rush). The fact that I play games on a more casual level now and the improvements of portable gaming systems over the past 10-ish years makes me inclined to buy a handheld sooner than a stationary console, also the prices are an important factor.

So, cast a vote and if you feel like it, share your story why! :)
