In July, the independent anime Nothing was streamed via Nico Nico Douga and YouTube and gained popularity for its high quality not often seen in independent works. It’s recommended to take a look first and experience, in only four minutes, beautiful animation and background music that are instantaneously captivating.
Nothing is the story of a closed-off young girl and her relationship with a young boy who gradually brings her to smile freely again after she was bewildered from her parents moving to a Japanese island and suddenly experiencing a new environment. There isn’t much dialogue, but the gorgeously and finely drawn nature of the rural area and step-ahead supporting background music more than make up this. In fact, just by watching the anime, a calmness is felt. It can bring to mind memories of passing time in the countryside and of childhood back to the everyday lives of young boys and girls. Many viewers posted about their experience of such a stellar anime on Twitter and other social sites. Among the posts were, “Now, I’d like to go home to the countryside,” and, “Beautiful.”
Nothing is a creation by Studio Link, a group whose efforts are centered online. The group includes more than 30 members who produce work of various fields, including anime and music.
