A few days ago I invented something for DDFF called Quick Format. The idea behind it is that one of the biggest problems with competitive DDFF is that it takes a really long time to play. This format aims to fix that, and while it is far from perfect, it does do a very good job at the main goal: letting you play a competitive-ish set of DDFF relatively quick. Here's how it works:
-Best 2 out of 3
-Match 1 characters = gentlemen's agreement or double blind
-Match 2 and 3: winner of previous game must stay on their character, loser may switch
-Customization allowed at any point, but please don't be a Sys about it
-All games on the same stage, which is pre-determined
(Obviously the standard rules, such as no FC and no hacked items, are still valid)
The Quick Format cuts down the time spent striking stages for match 1, checking the forums for what the stages were, then banning stages and picking stages and having both players pick characters. It just goes straight to the meat of the game.
That brings us to Hamachi mini-tournaments. Through DDFF history tournaments have all been either long-form tournaments that go on through months, or one-day (or sometimes two days) tournaments, usually done on weekends. One-day tournaments have always been very long, taking most or all of your day plus a part of the next day if you got to grand finals.
A mini-tournament is a one day tournament that gets done very fast, but is also very small scale. It is a 4 person single elimination tournament using the Quick Format described above. Why 4? So that they can all fit into a single Hamachi network with a TO/streamer, plus because they are small tournaments.
Because they are very small and compact, we can potentially run a lot of them, so don't worry if you miss out on one of them.
Running a mini-tournament goes like this:
-The TO makes a post announcing a time, the stage for the tournament and any possible rules changes.
-Maybe people post that they will be there but I don't know if that's even necessary
-At the time the TO gets into/creates a network
-People get in the network
-TO makes the bracket and people play
Easy and simple. What do people think about this format and this way of doing tournaments?
